It's a well-defined project with a permanent result, which is more than you can say for the same water under a slab.
Larger lots also mean outbuildings — barns, workshops, detached garages — that sit lower and drier-built than the residence. They flood first, hold water longest, and frequently contain the contents people actually care about.
Mixed construction and slab plumbing
Across the southern tracts the year-round problem is the standard postwar one: copper supply lines run through concrete slabs, sixty-plus years old, abrading through where the pipe contacts the slab. Hot-water lines fail first.
The post-1994 repair history complicates it. Where a line was rerouted overhead during reconstruction rather than replaced in the slab, a failure may present in an attic or a wall rather than under the floor — so we map rather than assume. And a house that is partly original and partly rebuilt contains both eras of material behind the same finishes.
